Sooo attached.

I am beginning to understand why people are so attached to their iPhones – they’re so capable.

It’s like carrying around a computer, phone, camera, music player, address book and note pad all in one little package.

And, it’s making me organized.

No longer do I have sticky-notes all over the place; the phone carries all my jotted notes.   It also keeps pictures of the business cards that I want for reference.  I can text, email, respond directly to web pages and surf the www.

I’ve loaded Shazam! so no music is out of reach, that tune you just heard?  Shazam! it and the artist, album and audio clip ‘pop-up’.

My phone can answer almost any question put to it…

I had wanted an iPad, but the iPhone is way more useful!

Saved by the iPhone

We were downtown; a place I never go as I hate, hate, hate the tight roads, the one way’s, the volume of cars, people cutting across the roads and all that jazz.

We were also late, due to an accident on the highway, one of 3 that we needed to take to get downtown.

We were lost.

I touched the map icon on the iPhone; after connecting, it located us and zeroed in – “go straight, take the 3rd right turn, go over the bridge and make a right.”  Time from turn on to located – less than 1 minute.

The Car-pilot followed my verbal instructions and we arrived for the Brunch only 10 minutes late.

And relaxed, not stressed about driving in circles.

The Car-pilot asked how I was liking the new phone, my comment was ‘it’s sooo easy!’

Good Lord! I’m hooked!

Car-man took me out for dinner.

During that ‘together’ time, I played with my phone for all but the eating portion.

I promptly read every e-mail the moment my phone chimed to say something had arrived.

I dazzled him with displays of Shazam!

I played the local doppler radar (weather radar) to prove it was sunny.

I checked the table for level.  It wasn’t.

I arranged a Brunch Date for Saturday and checked the menu’s of the downtown eateries, on their websites.

He threatened to get a bumper sticker for my car that reads “you can have my iPhone when you can pry it out of my cold, dead hands”

iPhone or iPad?

I went down this route a few months ago and decided iPhone, as it gave me more functionality.

The iPad is beautiful, easy to use, just touch the icon and you’re away.

But, it doesn’t make calls. And, it’s too large to fit in my purse (I carry a TINY purse, not one of those rolling suitcases that some women lug around).

So, after carefully weighing the pros and cons, I settled on the iPhone. It arrived just a day ago and I am very happy with it.

Learning how to use the unit is easy, it just seems to do what I need without complicated keystrokes. Just now, I’ve finished populating my phone numbers from my old phone into the iPhone and the difference in User Interfaces is like chiseling numbers on a rock versus pen and paper.

My old phone drove me nuts trying to do something as simple as composing a text message and sending it; should a phone call come in at any point in that process, I lost everything. It drove me nuts.

Now, I’m driving my family nuts. “Shh, I’m busy adding phone numbers.” “Wait a second, I’m browsing Apps.” “You GOTTA see this!”

Car-man is sooo patient. The Dogs are NOT, but that’s what bacon’s for, and the word ‘squirrel!’.

And, please be patient for one more day….

Safari – I was confused, Sorry.

Now that I’ve had some time to relax and understand what I was doing I’ve realized that I loaded TWO internet browsers.

They were duking it out on my computer.

So I uninstalled Safari, spent a while resetting the Microsoft Browser and now things are almost back to where they were before.

User Error, that’s what it was….

Learning all about the new phone

Safari, I hate you

What has Safari done with all my tool bars? My spell check? My Blogs?

GONE.

Now, it’ll take me days of research to figure out how to correct the install.

My iPhone had better work…

Yes, I’m a very angry just-updated-iTunes person. Angry and name callling!

Color eReaders? Liquavista!

Expect them in 2011 -

Dutch firm Liquavista has announced a color screen with low power consumption and a high refresh rate.   Here is the BBC article with video clip – http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/programmes/click_online/8610962.stm

The power consumption is considerably lower than standard LCD screens (but not as low as e-ink screens) and in theory can allow a standard laptop battery to run for days instead of hours.

The technology used is ‘electrowetting’ and it allows fast screen renderings; fast enough to run video.

Liquavista expects their screens to be available in 2011, as they are a supplier to the market, the screens will appear under a variety of Branded products.

Currently the only color eReader on the market is the Fujitsu FLEPia, but that unit is restricted to Japan and suffers from very slow screen refresh rates (almost slow enough to get a coffee between page turns).

iPad, iPhone

iPhone

iPhone, 3GS

All this research and I’m off to the AT&T store for an iPhone (as soon as budgeting allows).

I’ve looked at the iPad, weighed its pros and cons and settled on ‘wait’.

But, I’m sold on the cost/functionality of the iPhone – it’s 3GS for me!

Read eBooks, talk, GPS, Camera, Scrabble and Sudoku?  I’m coming…

iPad reviews coming in fast

iPad is out!

The reviews are coming in!

This one is a rather long read, but very worth the time as it does address most everything and brings up points to be considered.

Take a breath – here it goes http://www.engadget.com/2010/04/03/apple-ipad-review/

Once you’re done the serious research, this youtube video was done for a communications class (school project) and should bring a grin, or even a chuckle to you http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vZHQ7hcdh9U while it illustrates a few short-comings of the iPad.

Quantum Physics

I love this stuff! And, while it’s not related to eReader Devices yet, it will be and this article has explained a complicated process in a clear way making it easily understood. As the Author suggests, this will show up in gaming modules first and high-end devices, but will move down into the eReader market as it proves its merit.
